Best soundtrack never to get Academy Award?

Inexplicably, I've repeatedly tried and failed to get IMDB to credit Jerry Goldsmith for his haunting and influential work on this film - if you go to the "soundtrack" details, his name is not even mentioned, despite my best efforts to add to them. If you want to know more, go to

Goldsmith not getting the Oscar was bad enough, but after 44 years, I still can't believe that he lost to Francis Lai for his sappy, vomit-inducing soundtrack to Love Story!

reply

I love the score, but the premise of the OP is absurd. There are literally hundreds of scores that are better which also did not win Oscars, not least of which is Goldsmith's 1973 score to another Franklin Shaffner-directed epic, PAPILLON.

Thank you, thank you--you're most kind. In fact you're every kind.

Inception
Interstellar
The Good The Bad and The Ugly

so many movies, so little time

Not raining on anybody's parade, but Goldsmith's Patton March is almost identical to a much earlier military theme, from the Navy Log TV series:

Not saying Jerry stole it. However, he emerged from early radio/TV shows and doubtless was immersed in both original and archived studio music, and could have unconsciously absorbed it. The two themes are remarkably similar.

Goldsmith tended to get overlooked a lot by the Oscars.

It's that man again!!
