George C Scott was a rarity. Conservative Icon who was an atheist

I want to admit to you before hand I am not a Republican nor an atheist. But I did love George C Scott's movies. I thought he was one of our greatest actors.

What I find about him personally is that he was an enigma. He appeared to be somewhat conservative in his views, and yet he was an atheist. Today that does not seem to work. It is sort of like me, I believe in God ( although I admit fully I am a sinner ) but I do not vote Republican and I do not like a lot of what mainstream christendom does. For instance, how can you condemn gays when it seems obvious that they are born that way ? Hating a gay man just because he is gay makes as much sense as hating a black man because he is black or a white man because he is white. It goes against Jesus' greatest command " Do unto others as we would wish done unto us "

Patton seems to be conflicted as well. He believes in God, prays and reads the bible ( "every god damn day" ) yet cusses like a sailor and loves war ( which is mass murder ). Maybe these contradictions ( played so masterfully by George C Scott ) was one of the things that attracted the actor to the character. Because Patton was seen as a right wing icon many people on the right love George C Scott because of the movie. But I wonder how many would actually like him personally knowing he was an atheist ? Conservatives and the Christian Right seem to go hand in hand.

As far as his cussing goes, it went with the territory as a warrior and is a relatively minor issue as far as the Bible goes. Not that Patton was necessarily a Christian (at least not an orthodox believer) seeing as how he believed in reincarnation.

As far as gays go (which is an irrelevant topic btw): generally speaking, conservatives don't hate people, but they hate evil, which includes negative, destructive behaviors, like alcoholism, adultery and so on. Since homosexuality is (obviously) a perversion of sexuality, conservatives hate that behavior as well and seek to set people free of this sexual bondage, as long as they want free. If not, that's their choice.

No one is "born gay" in the truest sense, although they can be born with that fleshly inclination. Everyone has fleshly inclinations and they're never good (alcoholism, fornication, lying, gossip, hatred, etc.). People are usually conditioned into the homosexual lifestyle, which explains why gays try to convert young people into their lifestyle through gay propaganda, etc.

The movie plainly shows that Patton was NOT an atheist

OP said that Scott was an atheist, not Patton.

Lol.

You have a lot to learn about everything, my good friend. You don't seem to understand how things work.

Really? Because what I said was just common sense reality: Whether someone is born with the destructive proclivity to lie, overindulge in alcohol/drugs or engage in pedophilia or they were conditioned into these perverse behaviors thru social pressure, brainwashing or whatever, it doesn't justify the practice of these negative actions/desires. The excuse that "I was born that way" is a cop out and so is “My Daddy didn’t love me.”

Don't take this in the wrong spirit; you seem like a respectable person. And I thank you for your earlier correction about mixing up Scott/Patton, which I edited.

Scott was also a wife beater.

Lots of conservatives are atheists, although few who are in public life are open about it.

As for Scott, it doesn't matter whether an wife-beating asshole is a liberal or a conservative, he's still a wife-beating asshole.
