For anyone who is wondering what a synopsis is...

I went to MASH to read the synopsis as I had forgotten a few details from the film, which I had not seen for several years, only to be frustrated yet again by IMDB users who have posted yet again not a synopsis but more of a summary/review of the movie. For anyone who is curious to know, here is what a synopsis is:

Note that last line especially. I tried to direct this to the two persons who "contributed" to this "synopsis", but they appeared to have posted this piece of idiocy and then left IMDB, likely to go post non-synopses at other unsuspecting sites. Don't get me wrong, the info that they wrote is very interesting in itself. Just not very helpful to a person looking for a synopsis.

I personally believe that writing a good synopsis takes a bit of skill. I have read quite a few of them here at IMDB (which are generally not written by professional writers). Some are only three lines (and this is eXpected to eXplain the plot of an entire movie). Some are so long, paragraph after paragraph that you hardly need to watch the movie, as each scene has been diligently eXplained in detail. And then you find some that are just spot on and give you just what you would want to know about a movie you haven't seen (or to remind you of a movie you haven't seen in a while). I would hope that most people know a good one when they've read one, whether they can write one or not. It should convey the basic structure of the plot, without giving every eXtraneous detail. We don't come to read the synopsis to find out the history of the director or how the movie got made. Ughh.

I personally would not be good at writing these for IMDB, I would be one of those that would add too many details. However, I sure do appreciate a good one when I come across it. If anyone took the time to read this to share my frustration, I thank you.
