The only thing I never understood about the movie...

What was the "Shingle" thing all about??

When Doctors and Lawyers go into practice. they are said to have hung their shingle'.

Also, when a doctor opens their own practice, they are said to "hang out their shingle", i.e. set up shop, so in that scene, the creamed chipped beef on toast has a double meaning.
