And then there was KOREA, the MacArthur leaving quote and Eisenhower's quote about going to Korea; what was it all about? I didn't really get it :(

I believe it was pinpointing when this movie was supposed to be taking place. It's set in late 1951 just as General MacArthur resigned and when General Eisenhower went to Korea before becoming president two years later.

The movie is theoretically set in 1951 during the Korean War, but just by looking at it, it just screams Vietnam, 1969.

Altman wanted the audience to think of Vietnam, but the studio demanded he include the
crawl placing it in Korea like the original novel. But if you've seen the movie more
than once the oh so serious MacArthur quote starts to seem unintentionally funny.
