What was that vehicle in Big Joe's convoy ?

Before it got destroyed by the friendly fire air attack ? It looked like a halftrack with an artillery piece on it. Was that a Priest ?

M3 halftrack with a cannon. Looks kind of like the gun motor carriage with 75mm.

reply

Yep, that's exactly what it was.

T19 with 105mm howitzer. Used by regimental cannon companies with some of the early infantry divisions in North Africa and also used in Sicily. Some apparently survived to be used during the Invasion of Southern France. Would not have been used by the 35th Infantry Division nor any other units that came to Europe via Normandy. I believe that the Armored Division Artillery Battalions at that time used some until replaced by the M7 105mm Howitzer Motor Carriage, based on a tank chassis. The Field Artillery Battalions supporting the Infantry Divisions would have used the 105mm howitzer pulled by 2 1/2 ton GMC trucks.

Good info regarding the 105's, but it wasn't actually a T19 in the film:

reply

Yeah, I should have said it was modified to represent a T19.
