Italian version, they all die at the end?

I remember hearing (Maybe it was Robert Osborne on TCM) that some Italian version ended with a paragraph before the credits that said that the group didn't get far before they got rounded up and faced the firing squad. Something about the politics of the day made them have to add it.

Anybody else remember that? I didn't see anything in the Trivia or Alternate Version sections.

I just watched on TV the film dubbed in Italian, but with original credits, and there is no such thing. Anyway video quality was very good, so it is possible that the version I watched isn't the one brought to Italian cinemas at the time, but a remastered HD one.

I never heard that. I'm sure you read or heard it from somewhere but whoever said it was just being ludicrous.
