why doesn't Eastwood remake it ?

with the amount of power and influence he has he could easy remake it as he wanted it to be

with Eastwood himself directing and editing and maybe play the old general "De Gaulle" himself

He did remake it, he called it Space Cowboys the second time....

Seriously is there a market anymore for war movies that are comedies?
Even the humor in The Monuments Men was amongst some pretty serious stuff.
I bet even MASH couldn't get on the air these days.

No more remakes! Leave the great films alone!

Okay, serious part: Remakes practically HAVE to be disappointing, because they only remake good films. Viewers who are familiar with the original film often go into the remake with a cynical eye, because somebody's messing around with their fond memories.

Who could they cast today to play all those iconic parts?

Look at the legends who played each part and then try to seriously imagine
an actor from todays crop who could fill those shoes.

I can't see Clint Eastwood remaking this movie for the simple fact that he really didn't care for the movie. He wasn't too thrilled with Hutton directing the movie. Eastwood also said that the shoot went like 3 or 4 months over and it wasn't a great experience.
