My top all time

guilty pleasure movie. I love it, watch it all the time. My dad told me to watch it when it came on TV one Saturday afternoon in probably 84 or 85, I was 11 or 12, all he said was "you might like this, it's about some guys in the Army stealing some gold from Hitler". Loved it, then didn't watch it again for a few more years and by the DVD era I made sure I bought it when it was released. I just love all the craziness to it. It's funny how many flaws and dumb things that happen in it but doesn't bother me enough to take my love away from it. The part that stands out the most to me in terms of errors that make no sense the film makers would leave in there is the end when they blow the front door open but then have about 4 guys run in to the room from a side door. All that work to talk the German's into helping just to have them run in the room in a different door. Makes me laugh but oh well. I absolutely love Oddball and Crapgame. Big Joe is so cool, I love his line "Look! We're not worried about the German army, we've got enough troubles of our own. To the right General Patton, to the left the British Army, to the rear our own goddamn artillery, and besides all that it's raining. And the only good thing to say about the weather: it keeps our air corps from blowing us all to Hell because its too lousy to fly, versteh?" And when he's screaming at Mulligan is great. I can't say enough of how much I like this movie. My only wish is that we would one day be able to see the full complete movie before the studio edited it down.

Yeah I saw this on TV when I was a kid and I didn't like Big Joe at the time, thought he was too grouchy. Got the DVD for a gift and now Big Joe is one of the best I think! Love them all though. As far as goofs, one I haven't seen mentioned yet is when Oddball's tanks are shooting up the railyard there is a part where these German soldiers come running across this iron catwalk or something. One of the soldiers, maybe the first?, but on the DVD you can slow it down frame by frame and the guy stares right at the camera as he runs by. Not really a goof but kind of creepy like the guy in the striped shirt who is picking through Kelly's jeep when Kelly is telling Big Joe he is going and the guy looks up- knows he is busted- and slinks away!!

Yeah I noticed that part, I saw him running on the bridge and then he looks at the camera. That's usually what happens when extras get some screen time. I got to be an extra in Con Air and I tried to do everything I could to get in the movie or make myself more noticeable. My dad, sister and ex girlfriend were extras in Independence Day, my dad got lucky, you can see him climbing down a ladder from the top of one of the RV's right before the aliens are coming to attack the Area 51 base but he didn't look at the camera. I don't remember the guy picking through the jeep, I'll have to look for that next time I watch it.

This is just such a fun movie, I think it doesn't get the love it deserves. I've shown my kids and they love it too. I can't tell you how many times we'll be running late for something or my kids are taking a while to do something and I'll always say "Hurry up Barbara" and they'll respond every time "Babra Joe!" Lol
