near the beginning of the film there was a shot of a castle way up on a hill top does this castle really exist and if so where is it???
shareI don't know for sure as I haven't got this film on DVD so I'm going by memory of what I saw last night but when I was watching it to me the castle looked very much like Burg Hohenwerfen in Austria (south of Salzburg).

I have visited this castle myself a few years ago. It's in a beautiful setting in real life. It was the castle featured in Where Eagles Dare (starring Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton) in 1968. Perhaps viewing the castle in Where Eagles Dare gave the makers of this film the idea to include it in their film a year later when making the movie?
I wish I had a better look of it while watching the film to be sure.

Hitler didn't make Burg Hohenwerfen a holiday destination during the heady days of the Reich. That was the Eagles Nest in Berchtesgaden.
In the early 1930s Burg Hohenwerfen was actually severely damaged in a fire and took years to restore.
There is no 'Hitler Haven' room at Burg Hohenwerfen so stop being a troll.
Berchtesgaden was Hitler's Alpine holiday destination.

There is no Hitler Haven in Burg Hohenwerfen. There isn't even one at the Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden. Modern Germany and Austria do not allow such Nazi honouring.

Cool. Hope you enjoy it. Yes you must visit the town of Werfen and go visit Burg Hohenwerfen, especially if you are in the area.
PS) Ignore TheFriendlyNazi. He's just trolling and following me around. There is no major Hitler connection to Burg Hohenwefen, other than the fact that Austria was annexed in 1938.
