There certainly is. But then this film's visual schemes replicates virtually all the architectural and artistic styles and movements, also the mode of fashions, from the period. Not only expressionism, but also futurismo, the art-deco and art-nouveau...
yes, although at the same time, the sweeping and always-in-motion cinematography aims to create a sense of realism in many scenes as well. i'm thinking specifically of the handheld camera that follows anna through the woods before she is killed. this film is such a visual masterpiece. i think my favorite shot is the one at clerici's mother's house, after he has her lover beaten up or killed, when the camera is positioned at ground level and the leaves start blowing around in front of it. stunning!
