the song

Hi, I love all wayne movies, Chisum, great, but I think the song "Sally" was the worst I have heard. a pity there is no soundtrack though the music was good.

reply

You're so right. I had to turn the volumne down as that song was playing. Wretched stuff.

reply

Who knows the artist of this song "Sally"?

reply

don't know who wrote the lyrics but I think Merle Haggard sang it

reply

The song is "Turn Me Around". Music is presumably by Dominic Frontiere and lyrics by Norman Gimble. Yes, sung by Merle Haggard.

reply

I don't have a problem with the song at all -- it's a bit dated, but I like the way it comments on the action and relationships over an extended scene, a Chorus-like effect.

reply

Are you sure it was sung by Merele Haggard, sounded more like Glen Campbell to me.

reply

To me too. I must be along cos I quite liked it!

Cats rule, dogs drool!

I love John Wayne but have always hated this song...

reply

"SALLEEEE...roses and wheat in your hair..." I like this movie a lot but that song is just awful.

I'm watching this now--it is terrible!!!! Really thought it was Campbell too, but I guess it's Merle, who I like mostly. Had to fast forward!! haha

I have not failed, I've found 10,000 ways that won't work.

reply

Yes, a glaring failure in an otherwise classic Western score by Dominic Frontiere, probably one of the last "old time sounding" colossally orchestrated Western soundtracks. Even if the main theme lyrics are cheesey, the tune itself is wonderful, as is its orchestration.

It's Merle and it's dreadful (I'm a big Duke fan too), but there are times such as this when one simply has to face down the cold hard facts and grit one's teeth to enjoy the rest of the movie.
