Having lived in Houston for many years . . .

This movie makes me sad. It's not the movie's fault, I loved it. It's the city of Houston's fault. I'm only twenty years old and it's sad to see how many memories have been demolished. Astroworld (for non Houstonians that's the theme park that Brewster and Suzanne go to) is completely demolished, nothing left but a vacant field. The Astrodome (former eighth wonder of the world) is abandoned, empty, falling apart. I have pictures from the last time I visited the dome where you can actually see sinkholes in the sidewalk near the edge of the building and giant cracks going up the side. Every few years the River Oaks Theater get's threatened with bulldozing, the Alabama is vacant.
I love Houston very much, but come on . . . Everybody loves money, but leave the memories alone.
Any other Houston people on this board?

I have family in Houston, but I haven't been there in over 10 years. It's a freaking mess of a place now. Except for Bellaire or the Rice University area, the city is now one big ghetto and all the middle class folks are flocking to Katy, Friendswood, Tomball, and the like. My mom grew up in a house in Katy right off Old Hwy 90 and before that in a farmhouse right off Addicks and I-10 where the Holiday Inn is today.

The Astros should have stayed in the 'dome! And why Astroworld closed I don't know. I went there in the 90's and it was packed! Every time I went there from the 70's to 90's, it rained.

BTW, my aunt was the original owner of House of Coffee Beans on Rice Blvd.

Seems like the astrodome has been saved. The outside of the building will remain as is, but the inside will be torn down and reconstructed. They plan on using it for things such as conventions and gatherings and such.

Guess this post won't last long with IMDb getting rid of the boards but I agree. I grew up in Houston and had season passes every year to Astroworld. I saw The Beach Boys in concert at the Astrodome and remember going to the Autorama car show and the Houston Auto Dealers new car show at the Astrohall. Of course the rodeo was a highlight too at the Dome and Hall. My Dad still has some old 8 mm footage of the Lost River ride at astroworld. It was my brothers bday and he got to drive the boat for a few minutes. Houston had some really unique events and destinations back in the 1970s and 1980s which are mostly gone now. The zoo and the museum district are still intact and fun now that I have my own young kids.
