this is a fun film

pros
+ third faction of doomsday cult mutants worshiping the Big One
+ illusions....the bleeding ape statue scene was awesome
+ the fact the apes are too stupid to hold illusions...their simplicity makes them a bad matchup for the mutants
+ new ape general Ursus was cool
+ new lead guy Brent did decent enough

cons
- singing by the mutants during their worship...very annoying
- hasn't aged well, and quasi-space outfit costumes of the mutants doesn't help
- ending leaves a bad taste

Blame the ending on Heston, who attempted to end the movie series.

I thought it was a great ending. Think about it: the astronauts are all dead, Heston didn't want to come back and just having Brent take nova away wouldn't be a satisfying ending. How could they make a third with a child leading a resistance of cave people to take over ape society?

reply

The original ending had the chimpanzees taking over their society in the absence of the gorillas. Brent wouldn't have needed to lead a revolt after that.

I think the movie series did not need to go beyond this one. The last three movies in the series sort of do not provide any surprises because you know what happened that led up to the apes taking over the planet. Having the detonation of the bomb at the end finishes the life on the planet. So it is a fitting ending to the story about a nuclear catastrophe that takes down the human dominance and presence on the planet.

And by the end of this month (February 20, 2017) will be the removal of the message boards on this website. Tons of offensive, petty, and irrelevant posts involving movies, actors/actresses, other forum members. There was some good information shared by others, but the mountains of "garbage" that was also posted probably doomed this part of the website. Too bad. Anyway, as Bob Hope put it, thanks for the memories. 👋

Over sensitive whiners complaining, no doubt. But it infuriates me how the pussies in charge just roll over and start banning and cancelling things over it. It's happening all over and it's sickening.

we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide.

It seems that the site administrators got a lot of complaints and probably got tired to deleting many obscene, derogatory, and argumentative posts. I think they got too many opinionated people on this site (some even being called stalkers).

reply

They've been in operation all this time and never had to deal with that before?

reply

It is unfortunate but I can understand their frustration. Too many abused the system here.

The trolling complaint is just a convenient marketing excuse to make it more palatable. Forums over the years have become less visible, with people going towards social media for such things. IMDb is merely following this trend in a slavish way, not thinking about the future knock-on effects of closing their forums in the long-term future. Seems just a case of cutting off their nose to spite their face.

reply

I'll spite (and spit in) their face for them.
