Remake, disgusting.

I just saw the original and I cant believe they are remaking. What a bunch of Hollywood trash.

You've fallen in love with all the things in life that destroy men!

Meh, I don't have to watch it. The one positive I find from re-makes is that the originals tend to get a proper DVD release when the remake comes out to take advantage of the attention. Since I love this but don't own it, it works out for me.

HEINEKEN?!? *beep* THAT *beep* PABST. BLUE. RIBBON!!

Cry me a river, OP. Remakes are here to stay whether you like it or not.

reply

SpectralIllusion, yes remakes are here to stay because today's generation can't think of anything original themselves, oh unless it is a CGI Superhero crap film.

People are too harsh on the remake. I didn't really like it, but the film is at least adequate on some levels.

Strange how everybody seems strangely unresponsive to the beautiful cinematography, for one, well tailored for purposes of colouring and shading the narrative (lush greens vs bleached whites) rather than mere eye-candy.

I think the film fails primarily in its unwillingness to leave us out in the dark, which was precisely what made the original so unnerving. We're always one step ahead of the characters - which seems counter-productive in a film where everything (most of all the very location) practically begs to be milked for its isolated/foreign flavour.

All in all, it's simply too comforting a watch... I never felt lost or in sync with what those characters were going through. Needless to say, the original pulls this off a whole lot better.

The next sentence is true. The previous sentence is false.

True the remake isn't great but this one is nothing to write home about. Two girls go on vacation, one girl disappears while we spend the rest of the movie watching her friend look for her all while going off alone with the man she suspects may have harmed the missing girl. Personally, this movie puts me to sleep with every attempt.

reply

Oh,please, this is a good film---people are so used to everything zipping by in a film now with loud explosions in 3-D---basically if you're not used to slightly slower-moving more realistic mysteries, this one isn't for you. I loved its quiet, thoughtful, genuine creepiness and a great build-up of suspense throughout.

reply

Slower moving? The original was practically a sleeping pill in and of itself. The only thing that made it the least bit interesting was the fact that it was a murder mystery set out in the open and in broad daylight when most movies have the killing and stalking in the shades of night.

reply

Why do you keep watching it then if it "puts you to sleep with every attempt"?

A decent sleeping tablet might be less irksome to you

reply

Because I like to try and give a movie a chance. I'm the same way with books. Once I start, I try and finish it.
