Yeah, she quipped that just after saying, "I can honestly say you're the best audience we've ever had, but then we've never appeared before a CAPTIVE audience before!" CRINGEWORTHY!!
I just watched the "Go to Jail" episode today and really enjoyed it. Now I know just how "rough" Jim Rockford's buddy Angel had it in the can.
What struck me as most unrealistic about the episode was that the prison was set along a bustling thoroughfare in the city with only a single chain link fence between them and us. I overlooked that, and the fact the trustees had free, unsupervised reign of the prison's medical facilities. However I couldn't believe the warden fell for the old match under the thermometer trick!
I liked the surprise ending about who composed the songs. That was the message of the episode--looks are deceiving and people like books shouldn't be judged by their covers. Reuben got in a few more lines than usual, which is always a delight. And for the music fans, there were about three songs in this one.
Another thing that made this episode fun was the guest stars. Stuart Margolin and Ken Swofford went on to play mostly straight roles in crime and adventure shows. Ron Feingold who played Max will always be the flasher from a very funny episode of BARNEY MILER.
Yeah, in addition to the unrealism of the white majority of inmates and the points you made, the "incarceration" of Keith, Reuben, and Danny was fantasy as well. While he was in that cell, Keith would have been a victim of sexual harassment for the entire night!
David Cassidy belongs in prison. I just read that Cassidy was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license. I lost count of how many times he has been busted for drunk driving.
Yeah, I always wondered why Shirley wanted to take the kids to a prison
I just saw this episode for the first time today and this really bugged me... she takes her kids to entertain convicts, not to mention she's got her young daughters up on stage entertaining these guys who could have possibly been in prison for sexual offenses but hey let's parade my young daughters in front of them, yeah that's a great idea.
Then her little speech about how we're all prisoners-- umm what???
Then of course none of the prisoners they encounter are really bad people they're just misunderstood. Ahh ok. And the family gets invited to go to the wedding of one of the (soon to be) ex-con's and his (soon to be) ex-con girlfriend. Just the sort of folks you'd want your CHILDREN to associate with.
So you're watching the Partridge family for some high art? I laughed out loud when Shirley made her "in some real way, we're all prisoners" comment but I laughed even harder when xdayton repeated above.
Maybe you've heard the expression, "Bad decisions lead to good stories" Well, "Bad episodes lead to good Board threads."
If you want something about the show for prisoners (if the like the animated take) to perv out, the 1974 animated one had Tracy in hot pants, almost in underwear........you made a good point. Saw the show in the 1970s, in orig.prime time run but haven't seen that or remember that one in years, just the BRady one. I'd love to see that prison episode of the PF.
All comments=my own opinion not reflecting my voluptous pinup profile girl, Courtney Thorne-Smith
IMO EVERY young woman should be allowed to entertain prisoners.,
Meghan Trainor...playing on my mp3..and heaven knows she's had a lot of fun type songs...I wouldn't mid see her (granted, she's about 23)...btw Susan Dey, while at first playing a 15 year, old, wasn't that young, she was 18-20 during the first few episodes...(Tracy, not even 10,a different story). BUT THEY WERE A FAMILY, DOGGONE!
Actually, if they hadn't have killed off Mr. Partridge in the first episode, this could have been a good one to explain what really happened to their father.
