Sometimes childhood memories…

…don’t live up to reality. I’m a 60s and 70s monster kid, and whenever other monster kids and I would discuss TV shows that scared us, inevitably Night Gallery would come up. Certain episodes or scenes stood out in our collective memory, and the opening was always mentioned.

Then the show came to DVD and I immediately snatched up season 1. The pilot is good, but it quickly became clear the series was very hit and miss. The good news is, when it hit, it scored a bullseye! The best episodes are often very scary and atmospheric. (This is similar to Boris Karloff’s THRILLER.)

I’m glad to have the series in my collection, and it’s an important part of my childhood.

I grew up as a child watching this in total terror as well. The opening credits always scared me senseless, but I'm happy to say that it still does after watching clips from youtube. The episodes themselves are not as scary as I remember them though but that's probably due to the differences of a child's brain and an older adult's weary perception and the ability to discount fiction vs reality.
