I noticed that IMDB has a Night Gallery mini series listed as being in pre production. It seems that the creator of Babylon 5 is involved with it. It also mentions that the Sci Fi network is also involved. It is dated 2015 so hopefully we can get a new Night Gallery series going by the end of the year. Fingers crossed.
Hmm, can't find another source to confirm this but obviously HUGE news if true. If it's on basic cable it would/could have the same level of sex/violence as American Horror story. Not that NG was ever about pushing TV boundaries in these areas but a 21st century version will hardly confine itself to 1970's morals. What would the sexuality of 'The Girl With the Hungary Eyes' or the horror of the decomposing corpse in 'Cool Air' look like today? These thoughts lead to other questions like...
Will they redo old episodes?
Who will host?
If it's to be a miniseries will the gallery be used as a wraparound gimmick?
If it's still being called 'Rod Serling's Night Gallery' will they reuse original Serling introductions and Wright paintings for new stories the way the new 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' did?
It is still very early. I too could not find any other information on this except for what is on IMDB. Hopefully we will hear more news about this soon.
I am hoping that the miniseries they would use the introductions that Rod Serling did for the Sixth Sense episodes. Have the writers write new stories based upon Serling's narration. If the series get renewed for another seaon; find a new host and he can redo the introductions for the miniseries. If the miniseries fails to catch on then the creators have added more Night Gallery episodes to the original series as well as future DVD/ Blu Ray releases. I can easily see a 50th anniversary complete series box set released with this miniseries added to the mix.
Tom Wright did paint a couple of paintings that were not originally used so I would like to see those get used for some new stories.
As far as a new host. I like John Noble from Fringe and Sleepy Hollow. I think he has the charisma and gravitas to take on the role of narrator/host.
Clever idea using Sixth Sense intros and Noble would be an interesting choice.
Speaking of Sleepy Hollow did you catch the 1/19 episode with the haunted painting? I'd highly recommend it to any NG fan. The painting itself is the star attraction (like in 'The Cemetery') and it gives a taste of what a modern NG episode might actually be like.
No I did not see that episode. I did hear about its similarities to the Night Gallery. I work at night and missed that episode. I watched the first season and thought it was a good series. I have not seen as many second season episodes. I need to catch up. Thanks for the tip.
