'Has the record for shortest movie title ever.'???

What about http://imdb.com/title/tt0022100/??

reply

On a technicality, the letter Z at 3 strokes is 'shorter' than M with 4.

reply

Are you serious? Length of movie title refers to number of characters in the title, not length of strokes. I could argue that M can be written 1/10th the size of Z, therefore M is shorter.

reply

I'd guess that he wasn't serious. Your response was rather a waste of time.

This whole discussion, the more i think of it, is a big waste of time. But, while we're arguing, i'll suggest that the movie Pi is the shortest because it contains a symbol, and ZERO letters.

reply

No, it doesn't. It contains ONE letter - a greek letter. So it's exactly as short as 'Z' or 'M'.

reply

i suppose, techinically, that's true, though in the mathematical world where it's used, it would be considered a symbol. people talk about the "symbol for pi".

and i guess, technically, all letters are represented by symbols. a letter IS a symbol.

whatever. who really cares about the shortest title ever?

reply

There is a Problem with M. M is not the official complete title. In german it would be: "M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder" (M - a city searches for a murderer). As far as I know Z has no "extra" title. So Z IS the shortest movie title ever.
Oh, and just in case you want to investigate about this. Some movie posters read "Z - il est vivant" (Z - he lives) as the movie title, but the added part is not the title but the tagline.

This thread is funny! People arguing about small movie names.

If every letter of the alphabet is a film title, maybe they should have a 26-disc DVD boxed set.

reply

I appreciated your creativity, ndatmo-1. All we need now is a film maker to produce "i" (one stroke and a dot, excluding serifs). What will it be, a Steve Jobs biography?

reply

Thanks, cavia. And they thought JAWS was HUGE on the marquee! Wait until 'Applestem'(as the public will fondly call it) opens.

Well, O has zero strokes.

I'm afraid that you underestimate the number of subjects in which I take an interest!

reply

is there a collector boxset with Z, M, W and O ? i'd love to buy it

by the way O is the shortest title ever because it has NO strokes

reply

I'd argue that "O" has an infinite number of strokes tying it for longest movie title ever (with every other title that has at least one "O" in it).

reply

i'd argue that since infinity isn't quantifiable, you can't say if it's the longest or the smallest title ever. because otherwise, a title like "the omen" would have an infinity of strokes + a certain amount of strokes and would be longer than O. but you can't add to infinity.

reply

Of course you can add to infinity! There are different kinds of infinity. THere are infinite rational numbers and infinite irrational numbers. However, the rational numbers are more than the irrational numbers. Read some Leibniz and you'll understand it all ;)

reply

I believe it's the other way around...

The rational numbers are countable.
The real numbers are not.
Therefore the irrational numbers (reals without rationals) are not countable either.

reply

Technically, "O" has one stroke of defined length. The length is pi times its diameter. The single stroke could be converted to a line of defined length by simply opening it up and straightening it. Let's not confuse the character with a mathematical construct that is separate from the character itself.

This discussion is awesome.

I haven't click any of the links, so this one may have been mentioned...

Has anyone thought of the movie "$"? Nowdays you have to look for the it under the name "Dollars" but it was released in the former, not latter.

reply

Getting technical again, you could argue that M is "longer" than Z because M is traditionally used as the definition of typeface width, namely its Em Width.

Z wins!

reply

It does hold the record, but holds it with a few other movies. So it is a co-holder technically.

Maybe someone could come up with a movie that is just " "...nothing. That would be the new record holder.

reply

There is a new film this year called "L"

reply

Yes. There is none shorter. :)

reply

"Z" means "he lives" in Ancient Greek

reply

Well, M is before Z I guess.
