The film that inspired first person shooters

First person shooter video games first started in 1992 with "Castle Wolfenstein" whose story was like a direct copy of this film. These kinds of games are now a multi-million dollar industry and they owe it all to this movie which was the original inspiration.

Not to mention George Lucas must've been very inspired by this film too because there are many shootout scenes that seem very similar to the scenes on the Death Star in the original Star Wars.

That is an interesting piece of entertainment history.

Since it's been over 20 years since I've played the video game I decided to look it up again and here's what I found:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfenstein_3D

"Wolfenstein 3D" was the game I was actually referring to from 1992 that was based off the original "Castle Wolfenstein" from 1981. The original game from 1981 was not a first person shooter but Wolfenstein 3D was and I only played the first episode of Wolfenstein 3D which was shareware. I remember it was on a 5 1/4" floppy, oh my, the memories.

It was that first episode to "Escape from Castle Wolfenstein" that I played seemed to be like a direct copy of Where Eagles Dare. The rest of the game from what I'm reading was a sci-fi fantasy.

Because the game was so popular and historical it's been ported over to the IOS platform and can be played on the iPhone and iPad for only $2 now. I might just have to get it to play the rest of it, but because the graphics are so basic I remember it gave me a headache.
