Was this film meant to be compared to '...Baby Jane'?

I ask, b/c of the obvious title. It seems obvious that it was...but, was it really? Or, put another way, was it meant to be taken seriously at all, or was it meant to just be a lesser spoof of sorts?

Just viewed the film today, on TCM, and it was pretty good, though not like Baby Jane. It had the craziness of Jane...but, lacked a certain degree of heart that Baby Jane had. In other words, I consider Baby Jane to be much more sympathetic a movie, b/c the viewer could feel for both characters, at times, whereas I don't think I really felt for Page's character at any point. That, to me, is what makes this movie the lesser (less intelligent) of the two. But, that's also why I found it to be a bit more frightening than Baby Jane, because Page's character really did seem evil! She relished killing in cold blood!

Also, I found the story predictable, unlike that of Baby Jane. It lacks the mystery found in Baby Jane. Baby Jane was full of twists, and the ending was a true shocker! But, in the case of Aunt Alice, I could almost predict every step of the way, what was about to happen. So, in that respect, I found it less enjoyable than Baby Jane.

But, Aunt Alice is good for what it is---a not-mysterious but quite scary movie, with good photography and a good cast!

I am the movies I love! (^_^)

I think the title was just to lure people in based on Baby Jane. Other than that, they weren't remotely similar. While I thought the story was predictable, the ending actually surprised me as to the stamp collection.
