The Undefeated (1969) - Under-aged Melissa Newman

According to the film's title credits, the love-interest part of "Charlotte" in this film is played my Melissa Newman, second daughter of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. The Newmans were married in 1958 and, according to a number of Internet sources, Melissa was born in 1961. There is no way that an eight-year-old could have played the part of a well-developed teenager in 1969 who, in the film's dialogue, claimed to be 16 years old. Not even computer-assisted special effects could have worked this miracle in 1969. What is the true explanation of this impossible state of affairs?

I saw the film tonight, and you are right; there is no way the very pretty actress, with a penchant for football players who pass themselves off as Indians, could have been born in 1961. I clicked on her name on the film page to get to her own IMDb page, and a biography was missing. So evidently the information you brought up has been corrected. Meanwhile, there is another IMDb page for "Melissa Newman (II)" and this is the one that states a birth year as 1961, and mentions that she is the daughter of the famous movie star pair. So the answer must be that the Melissa Newman from THE UNDEFEATED is not related to Paul and Joanne.
