El pistola del Duque...

I’ve recently (re)watched a whole bunch of the Duke’s westerns, from roughly the same period (The Searchers, The Sons of Katie Elder, True Grit), and it occurs to me that he developed a peculiar way of wearing his gun, it’s always high-slung, and perched over his right buttock, way around behind him. I once read that he was vain enough (but then I guess that’s one of the reasons why we love him) to ask for sets to be built to less than full scale, to make him look even bigger than he was, and wondered if this might have been a similar trick, because it makes the pistol look smaller. It may, however be something medical…Any ideas anyone?..On a different subject, is this the most realistic depiction of a firing squad on celluloid?..Maximilian’s men are thrown around like rag dolls, and as many die falling forward as backward. There’s none of the slow, over-dramatic slumping to the floor that we’ve seen countless times elsewhere. Rermember, they’re being shot from 10 yards away, and this is definitely how it should look…

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...
