McCartney

I couldn't ignore & help but be reminded of Beatle *Paul* McCartney when hearing this character's name mentioned.
It's probably nothing, but I did wonder why the screen writers chose that (pretty uncommon surname) for the character vs. a far more common, similar name like McCarthy. I mean, by 1969 who on earth didn't know the Beatles?
Think it was a subtle reference?

Hey- they used a football player in the movie. I don't think it's a huge stretch.

It IS an interesting point, and like you, I don't think there's anything to it.

I'd like to say one more thing, not to be contrary, but I can tell you that McCartney was not THAT uncommon as a surname. It was more prominent in the South, and was sometimes interchanged with the far more popular version - McCarthy...

I don't act...I react. John Wayne
