couple of observations

This film has been on a lot in the UK recently and, though it's not a classic I always enjoy it.
It's a typical Wayne movie with a bunch of his mates and includes the inevitable brawl.
My favourite part, however, is just before the Confederates cross the river early in the film. It's such a weird scene, full of mist and scant dialogue-almost as if it was shot by a different director. There's a real tension absent from the rest of the film which seems to be painted by numbers.
My other observation is how well Wayne and Hudson play off each other. As long as you could play chess or bridge, Wayne didn't care what else you did. Just turn up on time and know your lines!
