Favourite scenes...

I love this movie!

There are not enough messages on this board, so lets get started!

What are your favourite scenes?

I love it when Charity is in the closet, watching the Italian lovers make up. When she has to blow her smoke in the jacket case, and when he comes in and she is hiding in the jacket with the bowler hat on, then pops out!

I also love the scene where Charity is hiding in the closet. I feel so terrible for her and I think it was horrible of Vittorio to do that after the wonderful time they were having together. I also love the elevator scene with John McMartin. And I love the "Rich Man's Frug", possible one of the greatest dance sequences ever put on film. Oh, and I love the job interview at the employment agency with Alan Hewitt and he thinks she was sent there as a joke. MacLaine is just heartbreaking in that scene.

Another devastating scene is when Charity and Oscar are filling out the applications for their marriage license and Oscar decides he can't marry Charity after all...MacLaine is once again heartbreaking as she literally drops to her knees and begs Oscar to marry her. When she says, "Don't save me...marry me" I swear I choke up every time.

There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This." The best dance scene in any movie musical, besides West Side Story. Chita Rivera just adds something to this number that no other star could have brought.

I love Ricardo Montalban so that whole bit is my favorite. Also There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This reminds me of the roof top scenes in West Side Story (not too far off).

I love Charity in the closet as well, blowing the smoke into the plastic jacket case. I also love the scene at the employment agency when Alan Hewitt is trying to figure out what she can do and he thinks she was sent there by someone as a prank. MacLaine plays that scene so brilliantly as Charity is so embarrassed that she pretends that she really was sent there as a prank. I also love the "don't look at me" scene where Charity and Oscar are sitting back to back at separate restaurant tables and the final scene at the license bureau where Oscar tells Charity why he can't marry her rips my guts out every time I watch.

Absolutely the employment agency scene. Best scene in the movie. Hilarious and yet painful, the turning point of the film.

My favorite scene in the film is "the Rich Man's Frug" and the two other dances that immediatley follow it.
Those great dance moves, the dancers, the music, the humor and not least the terrific Edith Head clothes that have the quintessential late 60's look, all of which makes this fascinating to watch!

I love Shirley in the rest of the film but she's not in this scene.

I just saw the film, the whole location shots of NY via the 1960's was cool. I too felt for Charity when Oscar dumped her and at the employment bureau. Why didn't she attend night school on her days off then apply for a job. Since she probably has only a grammar school education, why not apply at a factory, in does days, there was more on the job training. The dancing was cool in this movie.
