Turned my stomach...

TCM showed this the other night, so I thought I'd watch at least the opening credits. OMG, I barely made it through without losing my dinner! I guess it was the style of the time to do these freeze-frame action shots, but they really overdid them here, and with Shirley always in some zany, joyful pose. It was so cheesy and bad.

Now, before you jump all over me and call me all kinds of nasty names, let me tell you this. I saw this movie in it's initial release in 1969. I must have loved it, because I had the soundtrack, and even bought the souvenir program book, which I still have, along with the book for Thoroughly Modern Millie, which I also loved then but I can't stomach now either. Yes, I used to love movie musicals, but I guess I moved on.

PS: I absolutely LOVE Nights of Cabiria, the Fellini film on which Sweet Charity is based.

I saw "Thoroughly Modern Millie" in theaters several times and loved it. That was more than half a century ago. I tried watching it again on DVD a couple of years ago and couldn't get past the first fifteen minutes. I've never been a fan of "Sweet Charity".
