What year is this movie supposed to take in?
anyone?
shareThis movie occurred in a different plane of existence called Hollywood that sometimes appears to shadow or parallel the "real" world. Therefore the “date” this movie is suppose to occur during is undeterminable. You know the tiny writing at the end, "This film is fictional. Any and all similarity to real people and/or events is purely accidental and not intentional."
shareEverybody is packin' Colt Peacemakers, so it's gotta be after 1873.......but historical accuracy was never a strong point in westerns......

Welll.....I'm watching the movie right now and there happens to be a CLOCK on the wall in the sheriffs jail! Unless I'm mistaken, a clock runs off of batteries?? Ha!! Alright...after further investigation in turns out that clocks have actually been around for centuries. hehe, my bad. Dork! (hey, at least I learned something!)

Your post tickeled me. It's amazing that so many people from younger generations forget that so many of the things we take for granted in this day and age evolved over the years. Just last week I was packing up some old record albums when my ten year old grandson said that they didn't have a CD player that big in his house.

Since we're nit-picking about dates, the model 1892 Winchester carbines would date the time of the film as after that date.
shareDuring the interview for sheriff, Jason McCullough shoots a hole through a washer with a pieces of gummed tape over the hole. If memory serves, Thomas Edison invented gummed paper tape around 1879. I suspect that it would be several years before such tape was marketed and available in the small towns of the west. This would place the story in the late 1880s or in the 1890s. However, as others have mentioned, Hollywood is a bit free with time line details.
shareI'm no bucket expert, but that looked like a fairly modern metal paint bucket in the "no bars on the cells" scene. And did anyone notice that there's nothing painted red in that room (at least that we can see) or anywhere else in the jail? Not that I'm complaining, just pointing it out.
So historical accuracy may not have been at the top of the list of priorities. But it's a great film, so who cares?

1892. The movie starts on a Friday.
shareNot totally on subject but did anyone else notice that when Jason was unloading Joe's revolver in the jail cell, the bullets on Joe's belt, slung over Jason's shoulder, weren't the same size as the ones he was emptying from the gun?
shareA long time ago, far, far away.
Just like all other fairy tales.
No two persons ever watch the same movie.share

The year this movie takes place is somewhere between 1859 and 1876. The colorado gold rush started in 1859 and at the end of the movie they mention sending a delegation to washington to make the territory a state and Colorado became a state in 1876.
shareOf course the movie was a fantasy, with no claims to historical accuracy, but I noticed near the beginning of the movie, when the four town elders were coming down the stairs of the town hall, there was a portrait of Abraham Lincoln hanging on the wall. Often times a town hall would have a portrait of the then-ruling POTUS on the wall. That would place the time period somewhere in or before 1865.
And yes, at the end, they did mention sending Sheriff McCullough to Washington to lead a delegation for statehood. According to Wiki the movement for statehood followed after the end of the American Civil War, which would be mid-1865. So, IF the movie was to represent a historical period, I would place it somewhere in 1865.
Assuming the movie takes place in the 1870s, the restaurant's meals cost around $70 in today's money after adjusting for inflation, while renting a cot costs around $450 per night.

In the scene where the Sheriff sticks his finger in Danby's gun you can clearly see a microwave oven and an X-Box in the background. This would put the movie somewhere around 2005, by my estimation.
Awight we're The Daamned we're a punk baand and this is called Carn't Be Appy T'day!
