I think Clooney would be good in the lead.
Jake: John C. Reilly
Joe Danby: Owen Wilson
Pa Danby: Burt Reynolds or William Shatner
Prudy: Tina Fey
Mayor: Bill Murray

But you are right, I wouldn't want it remade. It's perfect as it stands.

When I'm elected I will ban remaking any movie that has an imdb rating of higher than 4. If you think you can take a pile of poop and make it better, by all means, be my guest. If something was fine to begin with, stay the hell away from it and do something original to make your own name revered.
