DVD?
Why isn't there a DVD of this movie? It's easily Liza's best. I saw it at the drive-in when I was about 10 and have never forgotten it.

Sadly a dvd seems unlikely of this. I'm sure anyone who pays attention will tell you Paramount is HORRIBLE at reissuing their films on dvd. It took them ages to release an American classic like "Grease" on dvd, and even when they did the special features were sadly lacking. They have released some of their more obscure films such as "Goodbye, Columbus" and "Lipstick" to dvd. I would like to see this and "Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon", "Little Darlings" and "Such Good Friends" released to dvd, but I can just keep hoping.
shareI wish there was some way to prevail upon Paramount to release a DVD of this terrific movie. At a minimum, I'd like to actually SEE the expressions of the actors better, as my VHS (and presumably all others) is not the best for resolving details shot at a distance... consider how little of Pookie's facial expression-- the nuances of Minnelli's acting-- can be discerned in the mailboxes scene.
Then there is the wonderful chance that a DVD release might include deleted scenes(!), the Pakula/Minnelli screentests, interviews with the author and others, etc. We can only hope...
Is there anywhere to go with this? A Paramount suggestion box? Someone to write to, to explain that this movie has a growing cult following, and that noone who has seen it regrets the experience? A worthwhile investment, for the nostalgia, Liza-fan and lit-crit markets? How would you pitch the idea to the suits?
?
id like to see this too bad theirs no dvd out
"I'm out Jerry, And I'm loving every minute of it !"
It is so nice that people still remember and love this movie. I saw it when it first came out, and want to see it again. It is among my favorites, and Liza was top notch. Thank you all for writing and still showing an interest. I too would love a DVD, but maybe all I will have are my memories.
shareI too would like to see it on DVD. I have not seen it in awhile and it rarely plays on TV anymore. I especially remember that Sandpipers song that is played in the movie "Come Saturday Morning" -- it sticks in my head for some reason. I would like to see it on DVD in widescreen.
shareIs there a Japanese DVD?
Check out:

I don't read Japanese and I wasn't able to babelfish the text but I recognize "DVD".
The movie stills are recognizable as well as the hirgana characters for "kuchidzuke".
In fact they seem to have two different versions on DVD.
---------
I finally managed to get an online translation of the japanese.
Unfortunately it comes out-- "Masterpiece series 4 where why to DVD it is not converted"
so it sounds like they're in the same boat as we.
Still, they must be viweing it in some format.
I scanned amazon.co.jp for the "kuchidzuke" characters and I came with a different movie.
Hm, yeah, I'm in the process of buying Pakula stuff, and this is one of the ones I'd really like to get. Sad that films like this is just forgotten, and «films» that aren't worth a damn will live on forever through the sheer power of their marketing. Just sad.
shareyoutube has it avail to watch...not the best quality but it's still enjoyable.

It's time for a 40th Anniversary (can it really be that many years?) DVD of the film, digitally restored, and hopefully commentary or feature interview with Liza Minnelli and Wendel Burton. Private DVDs are nice, but I'd like something from the studios.
