Great article helps find what locations look like today

Hamilton College - the location for filming, and the alma mater of novelist John Nichols - has this page:

By using Google Maps, you can track down all of the locations, visually. I even found the spot where "Pookie" was dropped off, early in the film - barely changed at all! (South end of the circle at Vernon Center - Hwy 26. You can also find the cemetery - Skyline Drive - Kirkland Prospect Hill, I believe).

The Sylvan Beach Sunset Cottages have a web site, as well.

I have not been able to locate the opening scene location, however.

The opening scene is downtown Clinton, NY

I'll check it out. As a location manager (sometimes), this stuff fascinates me.

reply

I can't find it on Google street map - must have been torn down...

reply

Not necessarily.
have you taken a look at the Downtown from the Street level?
It seems that Downtown Clinton is chock full of old clusters of buildings.
If you could speak or call the Town Hall, they might tell you where it is.
Thought it was renovated.

reply

Yes, I did an extensive map search.

reply

Yes, I spent two hours on Google street maps - all directions. The opening scene matches no existing structures. I've pretty much found all of the other locations.

This is great! Does anyone know where the field is they fly the kite in (right after the cemettary scene in the movie)?

reply

I imagine that it is close to the cemetery. The satellite photos show lots of fields nearby, and for filming logistics, it would make sense...
