This was a TV movie? I saw it in a movie theater!

I saw this way back when in a first run movie theater in Manhattan. Had no idea that it was a TV movie until I just now checked this site!! Pardon my French, but WTF? The main reason I went to see it is because it had Shatner in it. Imagine my surprise to find Lou Antonio also in it (he played Lokai in an espisode of Star Trek). Can anyone clue me in as to why it was also shown in movie theaters? Just strikes me as most unusual.

It's not uncommon for TV movies to get theatrical releases....Speilberg's Duel was made for TV but also got a theatrical run...and the 2 hour pilot for the original Battlestar Galactica(1978)was released in the theaters.

This reminds me, I saw the (TV) pilot for Buck Rogers as the second feature at a drive in theater way back when.
