The logo

I'm surprised the swastika-like logo with the three arrows hasn't been stolen by a heavy-metal band – or maybe it has.

I think it was inspired by the Spanish Falange http://www.1uptravel.com/flag/images/e/es%7Dfe.gif and the Hungarian Arrow Cross http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arrow_cross.png - both fascist parties.

AFAICS the uniforms were all East German (East German surplus uniforms are close enough to be cheap substitutes for Nazi ones and pop up a lot in films and TV of this period).

Thanks for those links! Those are really creepy-looking logos and probably inspired the one in this film.

You're right: It looks a lot like the Beretta logo. I take it those arrows are supposed to call to mind the masculine symbol?

That's it! Very Freudian.

Since it's CLEAR this discussion will inevitably lead to somebody asking,

"Hey, anybody know where I can get a 'Scream and Scream Again' t-shirt?"

As the ad states:

Ominous Insignia

From 1970's Scream and Scream Again, it's the insignia belonging to those strange gestapo-esque puesdo-nazis! They may not have had a memorable name, or been in a memorable movie, but their logo is pretty ominous. Get it on a t-shirt today and impress no one!

Thanks for that link! I guess there's no pop culture reference too obscure to be committed to a T-shirt. I'd order one, but I'd be afraid of wearing it in public for fear of being branded a neo-Nazi (or paleo-Nazi).

It reminded me of the British road sign for 'give way to oncoming traffic'.

Since the 'Gestapo' uniforms looked like British 1970s traffic wardens' uniforms, perhaps there is a connection?
