Amen Corner were quite a famous, yet short lived band in the 1960s, who had a UK number one hit with '(If Paradise Is) Half as Nice'.

They are named after the play 'The Amen Corner' by James Baldwin.

No wonder Amen Corner were short lived - as they were dreadful.
With their appalling music now i know why the film is called Scream and Scream again.
LOL!

Amen Corner is no worse than Green Day, Fallout Boy or any of the synthetic, craptastic poseurs those young whippersnappers are voting for on "American Idol."

reply

Fallout Boy -i can cope with (i know i shouldn't admit it) but the dire Green Day are as you say def " synthetic, craptastic poseurs"

i think amen corner is great

Amen Corner where great and there most famous hit was Bend Me Shape Me. Andy Fairweather- Low is an extremely talented blues player and is still going strong today.

You may not be hearing Amen Corner in the version you saw. There were rights problems early on and there are two versions I've subsequently seen which replaced the AC music. One version has dismal and inappropriate synth music, the other has pop music which isn't Amen Corner and is probably stock library music. The latter isn't great but is far better than the synth.

I don't know about the instrumental score, but in the Midnite Movies DVD release of this movie, it really is The Amen Corner performing Scream & Scream Again in one of the dance club/disco scenes.

There's another club scene with a "live" performance later on, but I don't remember if it's actually the same band as before.

The musicians are not lipsyncing to the song--I dont know what they are singing as the whole movie appears dubbed in post. The later club scene is also the Amen Corner but you only glimpse them for a second.

In all honesty, The Amen Corner's titular song is BY FAR my favourite thing about this movie! I first watched it on iTunes in May of this year. When the club scene came on, I was so pleasantly surprised. This song is very much to my taste, being a groovy late-60's piece of Brit pop. Needless to say, it was the last thing I expected to hear in a Vincent Price movie. I didn't even finish watching the movie right away after that scene. I immediately stopped it and, to my relief, found it on iTunes. I then proceeded to listen to it about a hundred times (I'm serious). It remains my fave new/old find, better than any new music from 2016, for me anyway. If I ever decide to settle down and get married, you had better believe that Scream and Scream Again will be played at the reception!

The Amen Corner songs were quite good as far as the music went. The singer's voice was pretty good, too, but the lyrics were totally random and sounded off as if they were composed of phrases haphazardly cobbled together.

I thought they were pretty good. Dated, but not bad. Their front man, Andy Fairweather-Low, went on to play in Roger Waters' (of Pink Floyd) backing band on a couple of tours. He's also played with Eric Clapton.
