If you don't think this film is disturbing
Then I feel sorry for you. You should be a pretty fracked up individual and see a therapist!
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

The only thing that really made me queasy about the film was how open the homosexuality is. I'm not a homophobe and I support the legalization of gay marriage, but man do I hate it when a movie about gays tries to turn you into one of them.
Visconti does that a lot too, actually.
What I don't understand is how we're going to stay alive this winter.

By your logic any film with a gay person is an attempt to make you gay.

I'll never understand why people assume that the gays want to "recruit" them. That's totally ludicrous.
shareI have read that Lawrence was rendered impotent because of the flogging he received at the Police barracks at Deraa (which resulted his order to kill all the Turkish police when he captured their train) and that there was no evidence of him being homosexual. Do you know otherwise?
shareSeriously? Do you think a movie can make you gay?
shareI'll take it further then that. It borders on pedophilia. The males are always so young or young looking. It reminds me of "Caligula" (1979).
I don't know a lot about anything but I know a little about practically everything

I find it scarier when people think conservative films are great - they need their consciousness raised...
Besides, what in this movie is so bad? I can't think of anything that is as violent as say, Pulp Fiction, nothing as sexual as most Hollywood trash...
What specifically is so disturbing?
Never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what is right.
Well, I didn't find it disturbing at all; I found it rather funny.
I don't want realism. I want magic!
I didn't find it disturbing in the slightest. It was a product of it's time, when the Western world was a much freer place, sexually. Not speaking of Rome, rather the 1960s pre-Pill, pre-HIV era.
shareI guess I'm fracked up then.
Because I wasn't disturbed in the least.

That's actually very arrogant to say, being as LOADS of American films directors HATE the MPAA here and are in awe that Europe is much looser on the issues of sexuality and ratings...
Hollywood is much more violent for sure, but when it comes to sexual things, European movies usually rank surpreme.

It might be. But it was about the time when everything anyone is concerned about is their own tummy.
Hello, Good Evening... and Welcome!
