Here's a snipit from the recent production

The new production is getting bad reviews, sigh that's what happens when people mess with success, but here is a snipit that talks about the greatest actresses to play Jean:

"The role of Miss Brodie has been a gold mine for significant actresses. Vanessa Redgrave earned raves in the original West End production in 1966, Zoe Caldwell won a Tony in 1968 for the Broadway production, and Maggie Smith won an Oscar for the 1969 film version. More recently, Fiona Shaw played the role in a 1998 revival at the Royal National Theatre in London. The Studio Theatre is using Jay Presson Allen's updated script, commissioned by the National and based on Muriel Spark's novel."

Why can't they let us keep the memories? At least we have Maggie's on screen to remind us of at least one of the great performances.

I agree with you, leave good enough alone. The only film I have ever seen that was better than the original was:"Scent of a Woman."

Oy, you dolts, The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie is a play, and can be preformed by anybody, I presume. Nobody objected to the 1978 miniseries, so why bitch about this new play?
