Ann Way
Where was Ann Way from? I love her role as "Miss Gaunt" in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" because she was silent and mouselike.

I just watched PMJB. Ann Way is so very odd looking. She'd be great in a scary movie. I wondered if she was a local Edinburgh person or a professional actress.
shareAnn Way was alright...but I liked the Head Master the best she was just so cunning and jealous of Jean Brodie. She and Ann Way were a perfect match for evil.

I thought she was hilarious in "Fawlty Towers" (one episode), but I liked her so much in "Little Lord Fauntleroy" (1980). She was the dressmaker who hires LLF's mother, who wishes to earn her own wages rather than be dependent on the Earl of Dorincourt. Ann is very sweet in this movie.
shareI noticed Jean Brodie was completely perplexed by Ann Way during the film. I think that was the whole idea.
shareSaw her onstage in the London production of Grease way back in 1973 (opposite then unknown Richard Gere as Danny Zuko). Actually am a big fan of ...Miss Jean Brodie and was curious whether she actually spoke (she did.)
shareAs was mentioned, she was in a Faulty Towers episode. She did have a speaking part in that, and she was quite funny.
She does have a different look about her. Her mannerisms connote
a character who is, at the same time,
obedient yet sneaky and dependent yet manipulative.
She is quite adept at this. In Faulty Towers, she shows
another side -- submissive yet demanding.
She is a talented actress. I wish I had seen her in a leading
role. She appears to only be in secondary or character roles.
She has a cameo in "Brazil", but she doesn't speak per se. She is British, as she does speak in "Gourmet Night" in Fawlty Towers. She is so interesting to look at.
"What do you want me to do, draw a picture? Spell it out!"
Just saw her in THE DRESSER the other night and recognized her right away.
Dorothy stop that, Mr. Ha Ha`s lookin at you!!
With show business's obsession with looks, I'm sure Miss Way had to try ten times harder than anybody else to get a role----but I'm so glad producers/directors took a chance on her, b/c she's quite entertaining. Wish I'd seen her on stage. Rest in peace, Ann. BTW, I think her role in TPOMJB was funny, listening in at the door, rushing back and forth for Miss Mackay, saying nary a word, but that little look she gave Miss Brodie after delivering the typed letter to the headmistress for Miss Brodie's dismissal, spoke volumes and was priceless!
shareHer face was f-ed up!
