live action remake or animated version?

since this movie is almost 40 years old ...take about five years
anyway, i have two seperate ideas
1] a remake of the original live action version,
with a new cast
and
2] an animated version of the original, partly with the original cast and partly with a new cast

in short, think about it,

the possibilities are endless, people

An animated version is an intriguing idea. Though, to justify it, you'd probably have to make the cast animals, a la Disney's 'Robin Hood.' And I wouldn't want any original cast members reprising their roles, but I'd like to have them appearing in smaller roles.

Live-action, I'd like to see Nick Nolte try the Ben Rumsen role. Just about any body could play Pardner or Elizabeth.

What is this fascination with remakes?

Not happy with the original? A remake will almost certainly be worse. You can count on the fingers of one hand where remakes have improved on the original.

I agree. :-)

Remakes suck. :-(

If a new version is made, it must be live action, so as to try not to replicate the animated KING AND I debacle.

Why not try a movie adaptation faithful to the 1951 Broadway play and score - with "A Million Miles Away" thrown in there too, because I love that song!

They should just CGI Lee Marvin. But seriously, I think they should re-adapt the movie version for the stage. The comedy style is better suited for the stage & with those types of remakes being all the rage these days...

I'd have the Coen Brothers direct it on the stage.
I'd cast Tom Waits as Ben Rumson. George Clooney could do it in a few years. Take his look from Syriana and add his Leatherheads/O Brother style. In a few more years I could go with Josh Brolin.
Luke Wilson as Pardner. Owen could cameo as Horton Fenty.
Perhaps Kate Winslett or Christina Ricci as Elizabeth.
David Caruso as Mad Jack Duncan
Chewitel Ejiofor as Rotten Luck Willie
