Watching 'Paint Your Wagon' on a Blu-Ray player Oh My !

I bought a Blu-Ray player a couple of months ago and have been enjoying the improved picture quality of my regular DVDs that I watch using it. ----- Well, watching "Paint Your Wagon" on a Blu-Ray player, with a 32 inch flat screen TV is fantastic, especially the surround sound. ----- It's like watching the movie in a theater again. ----- "Paint Your Wagon" was released the very same year I graduated from high school (1969) and has always been one of my favorite musicals for the forty years since the movie was first released. ----- ----- Rusty

It's one of my favourites too. Lee Marvin's amazing in it, as are the rest of the cast.

Can't wait till it's released on Blu-ray. I bought an HD projector a while back, so that's the closest I'll get to seeing it on the big screen.

One of my favorite scenes with Ben Rumson (Marvin) is when he takes Horton to the saloon and bawdy house. Horton outdrinks and outsmokes him. And when Ben hears that Horton hasn't had a woman he takes him upstairs and introduces him to Grace. ----- Later in the film Ben says something to the effect that because of Horton the girls will be striking for shorter hours. That's funny. ----- How big of a screen do you have for your HD projector ----- ----- Rusty

That is a funny scene. The film's full of classic scenes. Like Ben sharpening his knives while the community hold a meeting to decide on what to do with him. Or Ben waking up drunk to women in the camp. And Lee and Clint singing.

I have a 92 inch screen. That's probably the perfect size for an average sized room. I would highly recommend projection if you love film.

An 92 inch screen. You have one hell of a screen size. When I did my weekly shopping at Best Buy last night I noticed the section where the HD screen projectors were on sale. The biggest one was 72 inches. ------ Getting to watch "Paint Your Wagon" on such a big screen would be fantastic. ----- ----- Rusty

A 72 inch screen is still a very good size.

I still haven't watched it since I got the projector and screen, but I keep meaning to. It should look pretty good.

If you ever buy a projector and screen, you'll also have to get yourself a home cinema amplifier or receiver, and a set of speakers for the sound. But it doesn't have to cost a lot. If you shop around you'll find good equipment at really cheap prices online. My set-up didn't cost too much. The screen came free with the projector - less than £400. The amp I bought second hand on an auction site and the speakers were about 60.

It's a worthwhile investment if you enjoy films. It gives the old classics a new lease of life too.

Thanks for the details about the entire system, stepstonefilms. ----- I can always check it out at Best Buy, I shop there every week. And I'll keep watching the prices. ----- When you get your screen and HD projector setup will "Paint Your Wagon" be the first movie you watch on the system or will you choose another of your favorite movies. ----- When I got my first DVD player years ago the very first movie I watched was Winona Ryder's "Girl Interrupted" that was just released on DVD. Since that time all of her movies have come out on DVD and now that I own a Blu-ray player I'm still waiting for more of her films to come out on Blu-ray, so far only about four have been released on Blu-ray. I keep checking out Amazon.com though. ----- But watching Winona's regular DVD movies on Blu-ray is very enjoyable with the increased picture quality. ------ When you finally get your setup complete let us know what your first movie will be on your new system. ------ ----- Rusty

I've actually had it set up for ages now....what I meant to say was I haven't watched Paint Your Wagon on it yet. I think the first film I watched on it may have been Bram Stoker's Dracula, as it was one of the first Blu-rays I bought and a film I love, and I always use it to test new equipment.
