Book Sam seems cool. Like a kid I'd want to hang out with when I was twelve. Movie Sam is a douche, with his nerdy algae experiments. His voice sucks, and he has a very punchable face. Also, the addition of Gus is super lame.
shareMovie Sam does seem more self-assured than book Sam, whose unease when he did get out to the country is what I remember most. I loved the book when I was a boy, but that was a long time ago. Oddly, I never saw the movie until late last year, although my copy of the book had on the cover a photo of Teddy Eccles from the movie as he's getting Frightful.
