Did anybody else notice this too

In the scene where Peck is tied behind a horse and the apache is riding the horse pretty fast on the desert, his hat falls down. But next scene, it's on his head again. A possible goof ?

reply

It is not there. It falls off his head as soon as he hits the ground, and it is not back on in the entire sequence again... at all.

In the next scene of the film, perhaps they returned it to him, but during the scorpion ride... nope. They did bring him back around to the rest of the riders, where he started, so it isn't unreasonable to think he retrieved it. They wouldn't have wanted him to die, after all.

I didn't notice that, but there were a LOT of things that happened that didn't make sense to me. For example, why did MacKenna ride down the valley with Colorado? Why didn't he just get out of there the minute Colorado went into the canyon? Sure perhaps he was swept up in it all, but even in the movie's ending he threw away all the gold dust. Also why climb the rock face to escape? Where did he think we was going to go after that? The ending I thought was rather badly written compared to the rest of the movie.

reply

Yes, he threw the gold dust away, but as he rode off the camera panned down to his horse and a saddle bag crammed full of nuggets -- so he didn't go away penniless.
