Any one knows who sung the song in the movie? Or where can I get it? The name of the song, anything?

BTW, I mean the "Turkey Buzzard" song.

Thanks

The song " Old Turkey Buzzard", was sung by Jose Feliciano, it runs for just under 3 Mins. A great Song, well chosen for the Movie.

Jose Feliciano is a blind hispanic man now in his 60's, I believe he's Puerto Rican, he also sings that classic christmas song "I Wish You a Marry Christmas....Oh, I wish you a Merry Christmas....".

This song "Old Turkey Buzzard" can be found on a CD by Bear Family Records out of Germany called "From Alamo to El Dorado". I own a copy of it.

THe Christmas song that is sung by Jose Felidiano is entitled :"Felez Navidad"

reply

It´s not "Felez", Stayontheroad. "Feliz" is the correct word to say "Happy" or "Merry" (Christmas) in Spanish.

reply

I don't know if the trend will continue, but Late Night With David Letterman has been featuring an excerpt of "Turkey Buzzard" this summer.

FYI, the birds shown in the movie are California Condors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Condor), not Turkey Vultures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey_vulture; also known as turkey buzzards).

I looked at your Wiki link along with a couple of pages of Wiki images:

https://www.google.com/search?q=California+Condor&hl=en&gl=us&; amp;authuser=0&tbm=isch&imgil=2iw1yyeEpddstM%253A%253BJM-06v4z XTYyIM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fkids.sandiegozoo.org%25252Fanimals %25252Fbirds%25252Fcalifornia-condor&source=iu&pf=m&fir=2i w1yyeEpddstM%253A%252CJM-06v4zXTYyIM%252C_&usg=__9DdXS2NCGouxEjey_ 3L9oeV6j4A%3D&biw=1680&bih=842

and I conclude, based on the movie close-up of the bird that blinks a few times, that the bird is not a California Condor. The movie bird has blue eyes but all of the Wiki images show birds with brown eyes. The birds in flight might be condors, but since they are a rare and endangered species, I doubt that.

I have the original soundtrack on LP. As well as this song, Jose also sings it in spanish which is even better.

reply

The whole soundtrack is pretty good with Quincy Jones's Score.

Jose was known for the Christmas song (Feliz Navidad), a cover of the Doors' "Light My Fire", and what else? What other song did he do, other than "Old Turkey Buzzard?" BTW when Dave Letterman tosses a card through the "window" on his set, we hear the sound of breaking glass, and then 11 seconds of "Old Turkey Buzzard!" BTOW, the bird in question (in the opening credits) is a turkey VULTURE, not buzzard.

I was surprised to hear Feliciano in the movie. It was in the early period of his career, and I (having read several articles and short biographies) never heard about it. It was a year before he wrote and sang Feliz navidad, and two years before his real entering European radio stations with his second place on San Remo music festival with Che sara, sara (played in second version by also new and later famous Italian group Ricchi e poveri). Among his endless hit list that still isn't forgotten here are songs like (Listen To The Falling) Rain, Gipsy, Let's Find Each Other Tonight and many others written by him, or cover versions of songs like Kristofferson's Loving Her Was Easier and Mamas & Papas California Dreamin'.

reply

And don't forget the fantastic "Malaguena" guitar solo. His "Encore!" LP album is my favourite, including the jacket design.

reply

hahaha I saw that one the other day! They did it 2 nights in a row when he threw the cards lol. Thatd be awesome if they kept it as a running gag. Can anyone upload the song or soundtrack to me as well? [email protected] thank you so much!

reply

Dave is still throwing cards and "Old Turkey Buzzard" is still playing! Hilarious!!!

Well, there sure are a lot of you guys who like the "Turkey Buzzard" song. Nary a dissenting vote -- till now.

I'd rather listen to my ex-wife enumerate my many faults. That broken record is only broadcasted 2,000 miles from here, and it has never been played over a good cowboy flick.

Never heard of the guy that sung it but his voice is very reminiscent of Gene Pitney.
