Some Plot Holes + Gaps In Logic...

Even with some cheesy special effects & cheesier acting & casting, I enjoyed the movie as a whole, however,as a Western, there are some moments within the film which require further elucidation. namely:

1. With finding a valley of gold foremost on everyone's minds - bar Mackenna - how come none of them came prepared for the trip? When prospecting for gold or any other mineral for that matter, isn't one supposed to bring the necessary tools and equipment? While admittedly I don't have much knowledge in this field, I do know for a fact that gold pans & picks & sifters are basic tools necessary for gold mining. None of the characters - Colorado, his men or the townspeople - carried anything of the sort with them. Or were they expecting to come upon a place so laden with gold that they could just scoop it all up with their hands? They - the townspeople in particular - didn't think to bring mules or extra horses to help carry all that "gold". They weren't even properly dressed for a long dusty trip through dry desolate country.

2. During the attack by Apaches at the river, why didn't Colorado order Hachita &/or Hesh-Ke to parlay with them, seeing that they were Apaches themselves? Or were they in effect, no longer considered members of the tribe because of their alliance with Colorado, hence were fair game to the warriors because they were seen as traitors?

3. Strange that at the end of the movie, Colorado rides off without realizing or remembering that one of the horses (the one ridden by Mckenna) was carrying the saddlebag filled with gold nuggets collected by Tibbs, seeing that Colorado himself helped to load some of it into the bag. Even ironic that the one who gained from it all was Mckenna himself - & Inga who presumably stays with him all the way - when he wasn't even interested in the gold in the first place.

How about the fact that a shadow grows longer as the sun rises ?

Always ask yourself :"What would Neil Patrick Harris do ?"

gap in logic - how can Telly Savalas's soldiers agree day after day, to being sent back two by two, when they know ( as the narrator says so too ) they will be picked off easily by the Apaches

Something I always wondered about. If Mackenna knew Shaking Rock was the destination, then why was it necessary to bother with the map? He told Prairie Dog "no gold around there", which implied (at least to me) that he had been there before and, as such, knew the way.

He actually tells Prairie Dog, "I've been there", doesn't he, at one point in their conversation?

reply

Yes. He notices Shaking Rock on the map and says "I've been there". None of this hidden water source, etc.
