Jim Douglas Searching for Herbie

I know that this film is first and foremost a lighthearted Disney family pic, but I've always loved the scenes where Jim is searching for Herbie on the streets of San Francisco, leading up to Herbie's suicide attempt / rescue of Jim. The cinematography is excellent; it has a great darkness and grit to it that looks it belongs in a crime thriller. On top of that, the whole sequence is actually has a nice tension to it. Maybe it's because this was just after Manson, but they do a good job of making the audience concerned for both Jim and Herbie.

I agree with you Anthony. When I was watching this as a kid, I thought those scenes were pretty iconic and memorable, then ended up being gut-wrenching too.

IIRC, weren't there some scenes like that in Batman Forever perhaps? Where the streets are dark and wet?

Not saying it was as good as the Third Man, but kind of reminds me of it now too.
