MINI COOPERS: Why Chase Them?

Why are the Polizi chasing the mini coopers? How do they know that those are the getaway cars? Liquor & Whores,Bitches!

Possibly because they tore through a shopping Piaza (or whatever it's called) and down through a subway underpass at breakneck speed?

When they went thru the piaza the mpotorcycle cops were chasing them at that point. I just never saw where they attracted the attention of the Polizi in the first place. Liquor & Whores,Bitches!

They probably got alerted by radio telephones? I mean the police did have them in 1969.

The police would have chased anyone blowing through their "net" around the city. It did seem a bit obvious, but made for a much better movie than having them hide the gold in the back of a delivery van in an underground parking garage!

Rubbish, those Minis were the legendary Mini Cooper S types and they had twin carburettors and servo assisted discs up front.

They had also won the Monte Carlo Rally 4 times in the 1960's and they would have left those Alfa's for dead.

So why not check up on the cars history before posting stupid comments.

But the Mini Cooper S was still winning the Monte Carlo Rally (and other rallies and motor circuit racing) during the late 1960's too.

Conditions similar to those encountered by the minis in the caper shown in the film. You pick horses for courses.

The Alfa is a better car all round.
Compared to a shoebox with a *beep* pushrod motor with twincarbs.

This and a few other threads are bordering on the surreal.

Some facts are in order. This is a film about England, about English/Italian rivalry, it takes jibs and jabs at BOTH sides, as can be seen by Bridgers anglo/Royals o phile presentation.

Fiat offered the production FREE Fiats, Alphas, Ferrari's, whatever they needed as many as they needed if they would use those in the film. Peter Collinson and everyone else saw that only English cars would work, even though they had to buy every one used because the Brits weren't giving anyone anything for free.

This movie never would have worked as it is with anything except British cars, being used by a British crew to pull a heist in a foreign land.

It worked so well and is such a great film that we are still talking about it all these years later.
