Wonderful film but I still wince at seeing so many classic cars wantonly destroyed. During the course of the film they despatch a Lamborghini Miura, 2 E-Type Jaguars, an Aston Martin DB5 Convertible (what were they thinking !?!?), half a dozen Mini Coopers, countless Fiats....and a coach. Imagine the current market value of that lot today? - the Miura alone would fetch 6 figures.....
They didn't smash up these cars. The Miura was still a current car at the time, and still very, very expensive and exclusive. It was a mock up they threw over the cliff- same deal with the aston. the convertible DB5 was amazingly rare, I think they only made about 70 or so, and the car that got wasted was a Lancia made up to look like an Aston. although in many people's eyes the Lancia was equally as desireable as the aston. The E types were worth slightly less, but nonetheless it was bare bodyshells that appeared to get crushed by the bulldozer. The one with the "CRY" registration is actually still extant, cherished and in show condition. You can even see in the film that the minis thrown over the cliff were also bare bodyshells. no windows, interior or engines, probably bog standard mini 850s. As for the coach, It was a now very rare Bedford VAL with Harrington legionaire bodywork. after filming ended the seats were refitted and it was returned to coach work, surviving until the early 1980s when it was scrapped. You could apparently still see the join where the back end was modified to open up. a shame, there are only about 4 or 5 of these left. Todays value of that little lot? phew! quite a bit, especially with that provenance. Like you say, the miura is over 100k on its own, 50k apiece for the jags, prob 150 for the aston, minis 15-20k apiece. Cheapest to aquire would be the coach. VALs do appear for sale occasionally, probably around 10k in decent nick, along with all the storage problems a vehicle of this size would have.
You're WAY off on the Miura. In 2011-2012, properly restored ones are selling for 700-800 thousand dollars. The other cars vary wildly, but are light years behind the value of a Miura.
Even so, "herbertanchovy's" comment is very interesting and informed, and I thank him for it. Pity about the coach getting scrapped, rather sad that. But I guess the world isn't big enough to keep all the movie props.
They're not selling for anywhere near that. They're ASKING, but no one is taking. Average value on a good example is between $50-$80k US. Anything more than that, and they list for months or years on Robb Report and Hemmings.
Finding as arse for the seat is not that easy for these, compared to a DB or Ferrari. The Jags, you can sell them all day long in half way decent condition, no where near the same market for a Miura, or any early Lambo.
