Much like the posters and ads with a zoot suited gangster holding a Thompson machine gun, they were fabrications of the marketing department which had little to nothing to do with the film.
I suppose that back could belong to Mrs. Beckerman with a super 8 projecting the map on her back?

It's kind of similar to publicity for films like Bird on a Wire. There we see a big photo of Mel Gibson almost typically (some might say)equipped with gun in hand. The only trouble is Mel's character never fires a gun in the movie and the only time he picks one up, he immediately drops it over a waterfall.
BTW, apparently Michael Caine really objected to this aspect of the promotional material for the film and suggested it was partially responsible for the film's lack of success in the North American market.🐭
