John Waters must love this movie

There are so many elements that are in his style.
Also the dialouge in this movie makes Ed Woods's writing sound like Shakespeare.

And don't forget: Shirley Stolor looks a LOT like Divine.

reply

Ha! I just watched this fantastic movie! I said the same exact thing about Divine!

I was thinking the same thing as I watched this for the first time tonight on IFC. Waters was clearly influenced by this film; just watch Female Trouble and you'll see the similarities.

I turned 'Stranger' into 'Starman' in the Sunday New York Times.

His early black and white films look EXACTLY like it.

I think I first heard of this movie in an interview where Waters says its an influence.

reply

You mean his early films that were made BEFORE this movie?

reply

I think the dialogue and acting in this film is marvelous and very realistic.

Yes I thought the same thing. The star looks like Divine

reply

Divine looks like her. It looks like Divine took her acting mannerisms. But only in this role. Look at Seven Beauties.

reply

Waters I believe started in the early 70s so he clearly got ideas from this film. Which is fine, most directors are inspired by someone before them.

John Waters was the reason I gave this film a chance. Every now and then, John will compile a list of his favorite films and The Honeymoon Killers is always on it.

"FRA-GEE-LAY. That must be Italian!"
"I think that says 'fragile', honey."
