opening song
What a great song, How did it not win an academy award?
shareIn my humble opinion, being a terrible song didn't help its chances. ;-)
shareHey folks,
I just watched this film for the first time today. Not too sure I really wanted to watch it, I started it and then thought I would check it out on this site. As the opening scenes and credits rolled on, I thought I recognized the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad scenes, and then I thought I recognized Glenn Yarbrough singing the "Ballad Of Marshal Flagg" theme song. The opening credits confirmed it was Glenn Yarbrough singing, and the IMDB site confirmed they did use the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad in New Mexico.
I have appreciated Glenn Yarbrough's singing for many years; he had a very pleasantly distinctive voice. When it comes to the title song, however, I am afraid I do not have the same enthusiasm for it as bobk77 did. I think I have to agree with JimB-4's humble opinion that it was a terrible song.
It seems the makers of film and the song had trouble deciding if they wanted the film to be a comedy or a serious film.
Best wishes,
Dave Wile
