Very good movie, but Dan Joslin character (McGreevey's role) was not developed enough. From the middle of the movie there's simply nothing going on between him and Hilda (I guess that's where Siegel took over directing). And we don't get to see how did his friendship with Patch improved again after that little conflict.

Yes, there are a lot of loose threads in this movie. Lena Horne's part is barely more than a cameo. It looks like at one point they wanted Dan and Hilda to serve as comic relief, but then realized it did not fit the tone of the movie.

Yeah it has that vibe. Interesting movie but a bit all over the place.
